Quantcast Doug Philips Trident Frame Workshop

Doug Philips Trident Frame Workshop

Posted Jan 12, 2009 by matsubonsai

This Saturday the Greater Louisville Bonsai Society had a wonderful workshop lead by Doug Philips.  It was a small group, but we all learned a lot.

Doug started the meeting by explaining how he developed the method over the years.  He first started by carving wood forms and attaching trees with pins or nails.  Through the years the form has evolved into a wire frame, formed and soldered together for stability.  Paper twist ties are then used to attach trees to the frame.

After his explanation the participants all began work on their own frame.  There were frames of all shapes and sizes.  Trees will be attached at the next meeting in February.

During a break Doug repotted one of his creations.  This gave everyone the opportunity to look inside the hollow trunk to get a better idea of the overall process.  Doug reported that this particular tree has been in development for 4-5 years.
