On Tuesday March 11th I repotted this little Shimpaku Juniper 'Itoigawa' during a "Trim and Talk" meeting with the Greater Louisville Bonsai Society. I had expressed at the beginning of the meeting that I was very tired, having slept only a few hours the night before. My hopes were that the meeting would be a little more hands on with everyone working on their own trees and sharing of ideas. It turned out to be much more like a standard lecture/demonstration, which is perfectly acceptable.
Several pot choices were selected ahead of time. I let the members in attendance help decide which pot the juniper would go into. They ultimately decided on the one shown below. I had wanted to go with a more shallow Jack Bakkus pot, but decided against removing the amount of roots it would require to squeze it into the small pot. Perhaps in 2 more years I will move the tree into the Jack pot.
I'm looking forward to working more on this tree a little later in the year. For now it will get plenty of sun, water, and fertilizer.
